Mothers for Nuclear

We met a Cal Poly Journalism student...

In October, 2022 we were hiking the Point Buchon trail with a reporter, discussing all the latest happenings at Mothers for Nuclear. We had reached the viewpoint where you can see Diablo Canyon, and were sitting on the bench, chatting, having some snacks, when a young couple arrived. We noticed them at the outlook, standing together and admiring the view of our beloved nuclear plant, so of course decided to introduce ourselves.

Kayla and her boyfriend admiring Diablo Canyon from the bluffs to the north of the plant.

You can tell a lot from what a company chooses to put on its signs. We would have thought we could emphasize the enormous amount of clean electricity generated on such a tiny footprint of land, in harmony with nature. Just look at the place!

But - safety, jobs, economic benefits. All good too, but kinda misses “reading the room” (or the trail?).

What then evolved out of our conversation was a pretty amazing project by Cal Poly Journalism student Kayla Burke. You can watch it HERE.
