2022 Earth Day
We were invited to present about nuclear energy as part of Cal Poly’s 2022 Earth Day festivities. This was our first time presenting alongside Scott, from a local tribal group, as he also gave perspective about nuclear energy. We loved his messaging - nuclear energy helps protect things that are important to native people: Mother Earth, Father Sky, and Water the Lifeblood. Because nuclear is so energy dense, it has less negative impacts on these things!
We had great discussions with the participants after the event. Jennifer is chatting with one of the members of the local anti-nuclear group Mothers for Peace, who heard about our event and came to ask questions that aren’t really questions but rather a series of statements phrased specifically to scare everyone else in the room. Jennifer has a great way of listening with empathy first, then asking them questions to try and understand their concerns rather than trying to explain away the issues.
We had a representative from a large media outlet in France who was also visiting us at the time, and he was able to join the presentation and learn some more context for his writing (a piece published shortly after called The Nuclear Energy Dilema).

Also stopped the the local San Luis Obispo Earth Day festival - our hope is that nuclear energy will soon become a regular feature at Earth Day celebrations around the world. Nuclear energy is definitely a friend of the earth.
